Possible link between cancer and Clomid?

Clomid is the most common fertility medication used today. It is an ovulation inducing medication that has helped millions of women deemed “infertile” conceive a child. It has been the only ovulation medication used up until the past few years when Femara has entered the picture.

New studies suggest that taking Clomid can increase your risk of uterine cancer. Since Clomid makes our bodies think our high estrogen levels are lower then they actually are, this ‘messing with estrogen levels” issue is what is causing the scientists to believe our risk is increased.

Keep in mind, there have been many studies prior to this that have deemed Clomid and other “fertility meds” safe and without health risk. This is the first of its kind to mention any link between Clomid and cancer. Saying this, you need to realize this is an early study. One study.

The key points to remember, as this article points out, is MORE studies are needed. This study in Jerusalem does not say many things about the women who used Clomid:

  • What dosage did they take?
  • How long did they take it?
  • Did they have frequent periods before, during or after their Clomid use? Remember, infrequent periods increases your chances of endometrial/uterine cancers! This topic alone could negate the study results….

There have been many studies proving that pregnancy and breastfeeding lowers your chances of many female reproductive cancers, this is something to take into account as well. Will this negate the so-called elevated risk from taking Clomid?

The information on the study is incredibly vague, I do not want to worry or scare anyone. I took Clomid for quite a long time, and honestly, I am not yet concerned. It takes a lot more than 1 study for me to ignore the hundreds performed previously that stated that Clomid was safe. However, I did think it was necesssary to share the info to keep you updated on this information, since Clomid is the first and most commonly used infertility medication for PCOS.

Read more about the study here.

****Please, IGNORE the comments to the article at the end. They are incredibly ignorant and insensitive to those of us trying to conceive.
