How does stress affect fertility?
Yes, we all know how stress negatively affects our health. This is especially important for those who have elevated risks of heart related issues; such as heart attacks, strokes and heart disease — meaning ALL women with PCOS need to be concerned about stress & the affects it has on your health.
I always knew stress was bad for my fertility. Every doctor I visited told me I needed to reduce my stress if this (IF medications) was going to work. But I never knew exactly what stress did to my fertility…..why, or how it affected it.
Hethir, from Natural-Fertility-Info.com just released an article about this very topic…..Did you know the presence of adrenalin, the hormone that is released by our bodies during stressful times, signals to our body that conditions are not ideal for conception. Adrenalin inhibits us from utilizing the hormone progesterone, which is essential for fertility?
We all know the majority of stress comes from work, and family life, but there are plenty of things you can do to reduce stress….and I mean more than just taking a few deep breaths now and then:
Exercise – a 10 minute walk, alone, will dramatically reduce those stressful feelings
Relaxation music – Simply closing your eyes, and listening to a relaxing song will help more than you know
Hypnosis – Now, this sounds weird, but trust me….I’ve done it and can swear by it. I’m not talking about watching a pendulum sway back & forth, and dancing around like a chicken! Just simply sitting quietly and listening to a MP3 or CD. Before you know it, you wake from a “mini nap” feeling incredibly refreshed and rid of the issue that you started with (this works for many things including weight loss, insomnia, PMS, and stress) Its just listening to relaxation music, but a step higher….and MUCH more effective!
Essential oils – There are tons of essential oils out there specifically to help you relax and “de-stress”. Simply opening a bottle and taking a few deep breaths helps me immensely. I also add a few drops to my pillow to help me relax and fall asleep… Oils like:
- Basil – useful in curing mental and intellectual fatigue and negativity. In addition, it also helps enhance concentration, enthusiasm and clarity of thoughts.
- Cinnamon – effective in enhancing optimism, fight stress and anxiety.
- Cedarwood – improve concentration and strength of purpose. Besides it also works well in relaxing mental strain and worry.
- Eucalyptus oil – helps combat restlessness, confusion and sluggishness. Moreover, it also enhances confidence, balance, creativity, enthusiasm, understanding and vitality.
- Orange – helps to fight apathy, anxiety and burn outs.
- Rosemary helps enhance energy, clarity, creativity and concentration. It also work wonders in treating strain, fatigue, lethargy and sluggishness.
- Lavender – the most common relaxation oil, is considered to be a relaxant that helps soothe and calm a person. It is believed that merely a few whiffs of lavender can calm down a person instantly.
***Important note about essential oils — NEVER ingest them, or place them directly on your skin. They must always be diluted by water, or a carrier oil.***
