Low-Calorie Diets, good or bad?

We all know that a low glycemic index and gluten free way of eating (not a diet – its a life long commitment) is the best thing for women with PCOS/Insulin resistance. However, many women will add other eating decisions to their daily diet to increase weight loss, possibly a low calorie foods?

A recent study shows that eating low calorie foods may actually make you GAIN weight!

Cortisol is a hormone that is produced in response to stress. When calories were restricted, cortisol levels increased. Not only do low calorie diets increase cortisol, but they also increase stress levels.

Why is cortisol so troubling? Elevated levels lead to an increase in belly fat. Belly fat is also related to/a symptom of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance decreases your fertility, and worsens your PCOS symptoms….you see where this is going.
