PRODUCT REVIEW: CystClear
I was speaking with a fellow PCOS’er today, and she mentioned a product she had been taking to help control her PCOS.
There are a few herbal combos that various companies have released that they claim help PCOS. Not only are they expensive, but some include herbs that are actually not recommended for women with PCOS despite their hormone regulating benefits.
CystClear is a product sold by Biotanical Health and was created to reduce the symptoms of PCOS. It contains the following herbs:
Saw Palmetto
Peony
Licorice
Black Cohosh
False Unicorn Root
While all of these are amazing herbs, and provide many benefits to women’s health, there are 2 that I would avoid. Licorice and Black Cohosh should be always be avoided in women with PCOS because they have been shown to elevate your blood pressure…something we do NOT want to do since we already have a higher chance of HBP in the first place:
Peony, and Saw Palmetto are great herbs for PCOS as they control elevated testosterone levels.
False Unicorn Root is also a good herb to regulate hormones, and does not provide any negative side affects, however studies show that Vitex is the one of the most beneficial herbs to use in women with PCOS when trying to regulate your hormones/cycles.
While this product does contain some beneficial herbs, ones that benefit your reproductive system as a whole, I recommend avoiding this product due to the 2 ingredients that can elevate blood pressure. At the high amount taken, as instructed by the directions on the bottle, these herbs could do more harm than good especially if you are overweight/fighting insulin resistance or already have high blood pressure issues.
