Have PCOS and drink soda?

Yes, I am guilty — Dr. Pepper is my ADDICTION !! Has been for as long as I can remember…. but recent research has led me to cut off my addiction, cold turkey.

Soda has been shown to increase your risk of obesity and diabetes, as well as high blood pressure (all of which us PCOS’ers do NOT need!). But the finding that diet soda drinkers faced similar health risks. Most people drink diet soda assuming its lower in calories and therefore better for you — NOT TRUE !

This study suggests that artificially sweetened beverages may affect a person’s satiety or cravings for sweets. Eating more sweets is a bad idea for those of us with insulin resistance.

Overall, soda drinkers were at 48% higher risk for insulin resistance, therefore increasing your chances of various health problems (including being overweight, and increased chance of getting Type 2 Diabetes). These risks were about the same whether the soft drink was sugared or sugar-free.

Bottom line – having PCOS already plagues our bodies with tons of symptoms and increased health risks. Coming straight from an addicted soda drinker…we have to cut our soda consumption down, if not cut it out completely. Not only does the sugary drinks increase your insulin resistance related issues, but caffeine is not good if you’re trying to become pregnant, and even worse for you during pregnancy.
